Arica hails from Georgia but has solidified her residency in Indiana and looks forward to graduation where she will remain in Terre Haute and work in healthcare. Arica is happily married and has three children. You can find her in the Ivy Tech library or her office that her husband built for her out of scholarship funding. Arica would like to thank you for your continued support of Ivy Tech! Meet Kierstan and Darius Taylor A warm winter welcome from your featured speakers, Kierstan and Darius Taylor. Kierstan and Darius are a power couple in the South Bend, Indiana area. When they were discussing their future and what that would look like, they decided on furthering their education. Kierstan already holds a Bachelor’s degree and Darius a successful partner in the community of manufacturing. They knew Ivy Tech was the place for them. After Kierstan experienced medical issues, Darius solidified their partnership with a forever promise. Now they are philanthropically driven in their own right. For some students, sudden and unexpected situations arise such as loss of transportation, threat of eviction, threat of utilities disconnected, or other events that may prevent a student from staying enrolled. Thus, this fund was developed to help ensure our students would continue to obtain a degree, even when experiencing hardships. Your support helps provide financial assistance for Columbus Ivy Tech students facing unforeseen financial emergencies. Emergency funds are not intended to pay for routine expenses or be a consistent supplement to a student's education funding. How You Can Help: No matter the size of your donation, every gift is an investment in a student's life, and in the lives of the student’s family. By donating to this fund, you are impacting the lives of our students, as well as directly impacting the lives of the student’s family, and the broader community. This fund is made possible by the generosity of employees and community members like you! Student Story: I'm currently attending Ivy Tech. I work about 55 hours a week and go to school full time with not much money to spare. During the last semester my only computer’s hard drive and a fan had critical failures that I couldn't hope to fix as the repairs were well out of my budget until my college put me in touch with the foundation. It took me a day or two to finally stop crying with happiness that I could finish my degree and go into the career field I want. Student Story: With the closure of many facilities Due to Covid-19 I have lost my income and have been working towards finding a way to complete the final payment of this semester. This pandemic has been a complete surprise, as is the award you have given to me. Thank you again! Not only has this award brought financial support, but it has also brought me encouragement. Student Story: I expressed to you the concern I had about not being able to pay for much-needed repairs to my vehicle, and that I may have had to take a semester or two away from Ivy Tech to raise the money to keep my vehicle in safe, working order. Deciding to leave the college would have been a choice I would have made, reluctantly, out of necessity. But, thanks to you, I was not forced to make that decision. Many of our students deal with food insecurity year round, but times are exceptionally difficult during the holiday season especially for our single parents. Help us provide a special Christmas and emergency aid for our Anderson students who are struggling financially during this time. Holiday gift boxes would include a complete holiday dinner kit to prepare at home, age appropriate toys, and a gift card to Meijer for additional food or necessities. It's fitting the final campaign Keith lent his face to was #PuntTheVirus, launched on Giving Tuesday 2020. As a career high school sports official, he loved the football theme, making the above video and cheering on others to support this game-changing campaign for our students. Keith understood the impact of the pandemic on our students. Many are without jobs, live with food insecurity and struggle to stay in school in the face of competing priorities. Sellersburg Campus If I had a flower for every time I thought of you, I could walk in my garden forever. -Alfred Lord Tennyson Ivy Tech Sellersburg announces the creation of a new campus landmark that will honor those who served our students, that will enhance our commitment to the environment, and will offer our community a place of reflection and relaxation. The Duke Energy Community Garden will transform our campus park into a unique green space. With a winding pathway through the garden, it will offer a beautiful and contemplative walk for visitors. The brick pathway will feature customized bricks, each etched as a tribute to someone dear to you or in honor of someone special in your life. Just as importantly, a Memorial Monarch Butterfly Way Station will also be planted and cared for in support of Monarch butterfly migration which is threatened due to habitat loss across North America. The U.S. Department of Agriculture and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service have launched initiatives to save Monarch butterflies and habitats. Across the nation, individuals, communities, schools, colleges, businesses, zoos and parks have also joined the cause. Ivy Tech South Bend-Elkhart is set to offer YouScience to students enrolled at the South Bend or Elkhart County location, with a primary focus on new students who have yet to decide on a career pathway. The goal of the project is to give students “real” information, open their eyes to careers they may never considered, and chart a path to explore them. YouScience Uncovers ALL Talent The power of YouScience lies in our performance measures of aptitudes and our ability to connect natural talent with in-demand careers. "My mother was a Registered Nurse for more than 20 years in my home country of Liberia, West Africa. She inspired my life's goal: To open a modernized hospital in the war-torn, impoverished rural region she selflessly and humbly served. I am on that path, right now, at Ivy Tech Muncie, where I'm working on my associate degree in nursing. The advice and mentorship that I've received here has impacted me most. The nursing professors even share their life experiences and struggles to help motivate me. Through them, I've learned that hard work will help you achieve your goals." Lyndsay Brown Lyndsay Brown is an Emergency Room nurse at Henry Community Health. As a young single mom, she started with Ivy Tech Community College as she finished high school in 2003. Lyndsay knew that her priorities in life had to be differently focused than her high school friends, so she was looking towards an education that she could finish and then move into the stability of a career to support her young family. She completed her Associate of Science in Nursing in 2006 and started working in the field just four days after she walked in Commencement exercises. Lyndsay has worked with Henry Community Health since 2009. She also plans to look into Early College options for her son as he enters his senior year of high school and hopefully the Ivy Tech legacy will continue with another generation. Lyndsay is a great example of how Ivy Tech Community College WORKS in Henry County! Kyrie Branaman Kyrie Branaman is a psychology student with goals and aspirations. “After graduating from high school, I wasn’t sure what direction to pursue. During various employment and volunteer opportunities, I discovered that I loved helping people. Further volunteer experience with Quaker Cottage in Northern Ireland made me realize that my true passion was working with children. However, I realized the void in my skillset and professional training would prevent me from truly making a positive impact on children’s lives. While I am originally from Colorado, attending college there is extremely expensive. Having extended family in Muncie allowed me to begin my college career at Ivy Tech without accumulating mountains of college debt.”

With your help, 200 Tri-State Kids will have a new bike this summer! Every summer, Ivy Tech partners with the City of Evansville Parks and Recreation Department and the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation to provide enriched learning opportunities in a safe, healthy, and drug-free environment with specific goals of increasing academic achievement and reducing drug use and violence. Going on its 13th year, Dave Schutte (EVSC) and Chris Kiefer (Ivy Tech) have been championing the fundraising efforts to support for the annual giveaway. The Summer Enrichment Program emphasizes education, community service, and family participation. Celebration activities on the final day of the Summer Enrichment Program highlight a bicycle giveaway to students who are nominated by their teachers based on their having a disciplined attitude, good attendance, and exemplary behavior. The bicycle giveaway includes bicycle helmets, locks, and related equipment.The Summer Enrichment Program has been a tremendous success for the past twelve years with more than 2200 bicycles distributed to deserving students. This coming year we plan to award 200 bicycles and 2 adaptive bicycles for students with special needs. Financial support is needed to continue such a beneficial program. Your charitable donation will help underwrite the cost of purchasing bicycles to promote healthy lifestyles and provide deserving students a lifetime of memories. Ivy Tech Evansville would like to bring their PTK officers to the annual Catalyst Conference in Orlando, Florida. What is PTK? It’s only the largest and most prestigious honor society for two-year college institutions. Students must maintain a 3.5 or higher GPA while attending college full time (12 credit hours) and we’re proud to say the Evansville chapter’s cumulative GPA is 3.8!! Ivy Tech Evansville’s Phi Theta Kappa students' (20 members) hard work has received the honor of being awarded 5-star chapter status, which meant completing at least 3 projects that are internationally recognized. Membership in Phi Theta Kappa goes beyond the classroom…we’re out supporting activities on campus and in the community! We initiated Commit to Complete, the student committee project to complete what they started…their degree! One of our favorite events was the Laramie Project, a play and discussion based on the story of the 1998 hate crime murder of gay Wyoming college student Matthew Shepard. By completing our projects, we gain leadership and communication skills which will help us advance in our future careers. Being a member of PTK has given us priceless friendships and opened networks between students and leading members of the community. We need your help! Every year PTK holds a huge international convention with speakers, other two-year colleges, and educational forums. This conference, in Orlando, Florida, is a requirement to become a 5-star chapter. Our chapter would like to bring this year’s 5 member officer team, who have been hard at work since summer planning fun events for the campus community. Four years ago two students, in two separate incidences, lost their homes to fire. Each student came to us and said we want to continue coming to class but we lost our textbooks. Our incredible staff and faculty members pulled together to get them the books and supplies they needed, but we wanted to create a more permanent fund that would help students immediately when any type of emergency situation arises, whether that be a sudden job loss, a medical emergency, or a home fire. We wanted a fun way that the whole community could participate in, and so the 5K Monster Mash Dash was born to raise money for an emergency scholarship fund. We want to use our Giving Tuesday platform to grow the Monster Mash Dash efforts this year to ensure that no student goes without help in their greatest time of need!

Personal Protection Equipment-Learn Not to Burn: The welding industry is growing rapidly and there are tremendous opportunities for students with welding certifications. One barrier that prevents some students from taking advantage of these opportunities is the cost of Personal Protection Equipment. (PPE). It is important to wear proper (PPE) at all times during welding. Hazards could cause injury, burns or even death. As you can imagine the cost of all of these items can be financially impossible for students. The cost of the PPE is $225 and we have 20 welding bays. We would like to provide 20 students with this life-protecting equipment so they can accomplish their educational goals for themselves and their families. Ivy STEAM Camp: Discover, Explore and Create Ivy Tech South Bend-Elkhart is gearing up to inspire and introduce disadvantaged youth to college, specifically in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math -- STEAM. 24 sixth graders in the South Bend community will take part in the Ivy STEAM Camp FREE of charge. It will be held July 8-12, 2019 on the Ivy Tech South Bend campus. Ivy Tech faculty, students and staff from various backgrounds and departments will facilitate 28 hands-on labs and presentations throughout the week-long camp. The goal of the program is to show students that going to college is possible, that science is for everyone, and there are opportunities for those who take advantage of them. Your support will fund supplies for various labs/presentations, food and t-shirts for campers, and future Ivy Tech camps for local youth.

This Scholarship gives the Foundation the opportunity to provide many students scholarships forever. This year, the Ivy Tech Foundation was able to award 28 scholarships totaling $42,000 to students from the Lake County, Michigan City and Valparaiso Campuses. We hope you will help us continue to grow this fund so we can award even more scholarships to more students each year! I am a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, only given to the top ten percent of students on campus. Being a part of a variety of clubs taught me a lot, has exposed me to different people and allowed me to create many relationships. Also, attending Ivy Tech has allowed me to stay at home with my family and help pay for tuition, setting me ahead in my goals. I am a full-time student and a part-time employee with two jobs. I have learned how to balance school and work effectively to achieve a 3.756 GPA.While in high school, I was given an incredible opportunity to become experienced in Engineering and Technology. My husband works very hard to support us and receiving this scholarship is a tremendous help. As a non-traditional student, I have a higher level of maturity and focus; a focus on the prize of graduation. I struggle with personal health issues, but I am determined to succeed. My drive comes from wanting to contribute to the support of my family. Jasmine Wade: Physical Therapist Assistant Ivy Tech gives students like me the same education as a four-year university. It’s affordable and gives me the chance to become a better person in life by having an education. My career goals start with completing the Physical Therapist Assistant Program at Ivy Tech and then applying for transitioning programs to fulfill my ultimate goal. Helping my community is very important. I plan to go back to my high school, motivate students who want to major in PTA and help guide them in the right direction. My experience with leadership is vital, and I will do my absolute best to make sure no one is left behind and assist others to work together as a team to get any job done. Bill loved serving as a Trustee on the Ivy Tech Board and was especially proud that he could contribute to its success as his health began to fail. We thank all of those at Ivy Tech for allowing him to leave a legacy of giving and supporting young people as they pursue their dream of a post-secondary degree. 'Tis the Season! During this day of giving, please join the Ivy Tech Richmond employee family in helping the children of Ivy Tech students have a wonderful Christmas. Ivy Tech students sometimes cannot afford basic necessities, let alone Christmas gifts for their child(ren). An annual tradition for the Ivy Tech Richmond campus is supporting our students by accepting donations of cash or gifts for Christmas presents for their child(ren). Students register their children starting on November 19 through November 30 at the Richmond campus. They provide the ages of their children (up to 18), clothing sizes and wish lists. We hang an ornament on the tree representing the children and their wish list. The tree is always full and there are times we have to turn students away because there are not enough funds to buy gifts for everyone. College staff shop between December 10 - 16 using the donated funds. Students pick up the gifts on December 17, right before the campus' holiday break. The gifts are unwrapped but put in large bags for the parents/caregivers and wrapping paper is given as we have it available. The Ivy Tech Richmond employee family will make sure your gift will make an impact this holiday season.

Every summer, Ivy Tech partners with the City of Evansville Parks and Recreation Department and the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation to provide enriched learning opportunities in a safe, healthy, and drug-free environment with specific goals of increasing academic achievement and reducing drug use and violence. Going on its 12th year, Dave Schutte (EVSC) and Chris Kiefer (Ivy Tech) have been championing the fundraising efforts to support for the annual giveaway. The Summer Enrichment Program emphasizes education, community service, and family participation. Celebration activities on the final day of the Summer Enrichment Program highlight a bicycle giveaway to students who are nominated by their teachers based on their having a disciplined attitude, good attendance, and exemplary behavior. The bicycle giveaway includes bicycle helmets, locks, and related equipment. The Summer Enrichment Program has been a tremendous success for the past eleven years with more than 2000 bicycles distributed to deserving students. This coming year we plan to award 200 bicycles and 2 adaptive bicycles for students with special needs. Financial support is needed to continue such a beneficial program. Your charitable donation will help underwrite the cost of purchasing bicycles to promote healthy lifestyles and provide deserving students a lifetime of memories. It is a struggle for students who are facing poverty to afford basic necessities. We see this daily and we need your help. Richmond WOW! We reached our goal! Please don't let that stop you from experiencing the joy of giving and giving a hand up to help change the lives of students! We are still accepting donations.... What it is….. Ivy CARES (Caring Assistance Resource for Every Student) is a grass-roots initiative that was started by a caring faculty member who identified a substantial need among her students. It quickly became apparent that the need is much greater and has become a major initiative for the Richmond campus to provide support to all eligible students. The goal of Ivy CARES is to work with the student to ensure that they have regular attendance and can successfully complete their classes. Ultimately, Ivy CARES helps students achieve their educational objectives. It is a struggle for students who are facing poverty to afford housing, food, clothes and other basic necessities. Many students are one flat tire away from dropping out. Many may be unable to even afford enough gas to drive to and from campus for a week, let alone their many other basic necessities. When a student chooses to enroll at Ivy Tech, they have taken a step toward improving their skills for the betterment of themselves, their families and communities. There are many financial barriers students face while attending Ivy Tech. An example: A student may struggle to pay for child care for a week or two so they stay at home to care for their children rather than attend class. The student then falls too far behind in class so they stop attending or withdraw. Ivy CARES is designed to provide assistance to students, helping them overcome obstacles along their paths to academic and personal success. This involves identifying challenges, strategizing solutions, referring students to needed resources, and following up with students to further support and motivate them. In most cases, resources are needed immediately to ensure students' continued success in their coursework and educational goals. How it works….. Students are referred to the Ivy CARES office and staff confirm financial need. Once confirmed, staff determine how best to assist students whether it be through referrals or providing immediate emergency assistance. The support is not designed for assistance with recurring expenses and does not support tuition, fees or books. In most cases, the expectation for receiving emergency assistance is that students must be: in good academic and financial standing with the College in regular attendance with their current classes making satisfactory progress in their current coursework. How Ivy CARES is funded….. Emergency assistance through financial support is fully funded by donations made to the Ivy Tech Foundation. Providing financial support that minimize barriers for students to achieve their educational objective is only one component of Ivy CARES. The campus is staffing the Ivy CARES office with Ivy Tech student interns from the Human Services program and we are pleased to be learning that a number of students are more comfortable speaking to other students about the issues they are challenged with. Showing impact….. The campus is already seeing immediate impact since tracking began the start of fall semester 2017. For those receiving some form of assistance through Ivy CARES, a 90 percent retention rate has resulted.

Hospitality students trip to the National Restaurant Association Conference in Chicago, IL Hospitality Students Ivy Tech Evansville Hospitality students, under the leadership of Chef Watez Phelps, provide their time and talent through food creation and service with dozens of community organizations. A few of these include: March of Dimes Chef Auction, Evansville Philharmonic Brundibar Children's Orchestra, Aurora Gingerbread House competition, YWCA's annual women's luncheon, Ivy Tech Recipe for Success (see included video!) and Lampion Center's Chocolate Affair. Experiential learning is essential for this program. Through these team projects, students learn to work more effectively together, developing a plan of action, and utilizing the unique qualities of each team member. In turn, the students learn real-life leadership skills, as well as how to apply critical thinking and adapt to changing circumstances. Why Are We Raising Money? Eleven Hospitality students would like to gain knowledge about the hospitality industry and network with professionals in the field through a once in a lifetime experience of attending the National Restaurant Association Annual Conference, held in Chicago, IL. Some funds have been raised through bake sales, but additional support is needed. This conference is an invaluable learning opportunity and a once in a lifetime opportunity for upcoming graduates. This conference will expose students to new culinary techniques and interaction with leading chefs from across the nation. More about Abby: Abby was an 8th grader at Delphi Community Middle School, where she played saxophone in the school band, and was on the volleyball team. She had attended area churches with her family. She enjoyed reading, and had a big reading counts number in her language arts class. She loved to camp and swim, and loved being outdoors; she liked riding ATV's with her family on camping trips to Michigan. She loved all animals, especially her cat Bongo. She enjoyed photography and art, drawing and creating little masterpieces that decorated her mother’s home. Abby and her good friend Libby were excited and looking forward to planning their next 4 years of school together. She would have celebrated her 14th birthday on the 23rd of June. In honor of Abby's love for the outdoors and the arts, The planned Abby and Libby Memorial Park in Delphi includes the plans for a band shell and 2 playgrounds which will allow children in future years to enjoy the same things she did.

"Will" Stonetreet II was a Northwestern High School senior and was also enrolled in the Integrated Technology Education Program (ITEP) at Ivy Tech Community College in Kokomo in Advanced Manufacturing. After graduation from Northwestern HS, Will had plans to attend Ivy Tech and further his education in Industrial Technology as an electrician. "It isn't very often that I am able to share in my students success as they are happening. It is usually years after they graduate from Northwestern that I am able to see the successes of my students. Will was the exception. To see how much he grew as a person and student over the past few years is something that I will cherish forever. We need your help moving our students across the finish line! Madison We Need Your Help: The Indiana Institute for Working Families (2017) identifies access to a vehicle as a non-academic barrier that hinders a student’s ability to complete. The study mentions that to meet the state’s workforce and economic goals, we need to remove non-academic barriers standing between adult students and their post-secondary education. Transportation is one of these identified non-academic barriers because it is unlikely for students to be able to attend and complete without access to a reliable vehicle. There are approximately 99,804 Indiana adults without a vehicle that are non-high school graduates, high school graduates only, or some post-secondary without completion. Our Solution: To address this need at the Madison campus, our retention team is seeking funds to provide funds for public transportation access for two types of students: current students who are unable to find reliable transportation threatening their ability to complete and potential students who need a temporary plan for transportation to enroll in classes at our Ivy Tech campus. Barrier Busting Transportation Funds: Madison, Indiana does not have a public bussing system, and the Madison campus is not accessible by sidewalk or bike path. Therefore, the most affordable means of transportation for someone without transportation would be the Catch-a-Ride system. The standard Catch-A-Ride fare is $1.50 per fare for 0-5 miles with and additional $0.25 per mile beyond 5 miles. This proposal estimates the average fare for a student to be $3 per fare (11 mi.), in which they need a fare to and from campus ($6). This proposal is requesting round-trip fare for 80 transportation fares to campus. While there is not a system for our program to allocate a specific number of students or a specific number of fares per student, it is assumed that any student without reliable transportation will need more than one fare. For example, this amount could provide approximately 8 students without reliable transportation for 10 fares (average distance 11 mi.), but the funds will be disseminated on an as-needed, per mile, per fare basis.

These two initiatives are designed to help eliminate obstacles for students on their path to completing their education with Ivy Tech. The Helping Hands Emergency Fund The Helping Hands Emergency Fund was formally created in 2016 to provide aid for students who were experiencing a one-time, unforeseeable incident that could halt their ability to continue at Ivy Tech. Since its establishment, the fund has helped students experiencing anything from a house fire to a flat tire. Through support of this fund, you will help students manage life’s most difficult curve balls and keep them on track to graduating on time. The Textbook Lending Library The Textbook Lending Library will launch in January 2018. This initiative was provided with start-up funds from the Circle of Ivy. Students who are unable to purchase textbooks due to lack of aid can be lent textbooks for the duration of the semester. At the end of the semester, they will be returned so that another student can use them.

East Central Direct Student Impact: This was developed to help ensure our students would continue to obtain a degree, even if experiencing hardships. This would help provide financial assistance for East Central Region Ivy Tech students facing unforeseen financial emergencies. Emergency funds are not intended to pay for routine expenses or be a consistent supplement to a student's education funding. Grace Madison Grace Madison is a senior at Blue River Valley High School. Although she is a busy with several extracurricular activities, she is also participating in the Early College program at Ivy Tech Community College through the New Castle Career Center. This is Grace’s first semester at Ivy Tech. In addition to her high school courses and activities, she attends two college classes on the Ivy Tech campus each week. She was aware of the Early College option because her brother, who is attending IU-Bloomington, had also taken advantage of the Early College program. Grace plans to complete four Ivy Tech classes this year and then will attend IUPUI or Hanover College next fall. She hopes to become a Physician’s Assistant and open a clinic for children with special needs. She said the experience at Ivy Tech has been a good “middle ground, or stepping stone” for her. Her instructors treat her as an adult in terms of her coursework and it is up to her to make sure she is on track and getting everything completed. The convenience of having Ivy Tech in her local community is helpful because the location is familiar, close and travel costs are minimal. Grace is a great example of how Ivy Tech Community College WORKS in Henry County! Lyndsay Brown Lyndsay Brown is an Emergency Room nurse at Henry Community Health. As a young single mom, she started with Ivy Tech Community College as she finished high school in 2003. Lyndsay knew that her priorities in life had to be differently focused than her high school friends, so she was looking towards an education that she could finish and then move into the stability of a career to support her young family. She completed her Associate of Science in Nursing in 2006 and started working in the field just four days after she walked in Commencement exercises. Lyndsay has worked with Henry Community Health since 2009. She also plans to look into Early College options for her son as he enters his senior year of high school and hopefully the Ivy Tech legacy will continue with another generation. Lyndsay is a great example of how Ivy Tech Community College WORKS in Henry County! Kelly Dirickson Kelly Dirickson graduated with Ivy Tech Community College in 2014 with an Associate of Science degree in Early Childhood Education. She attended general education courses at the local campus and then completed the remainder of her degree with a combination of online courses and also on-campus classes with an easy commute to near-by campuses for her final portion of her degree requirements. Kelly participated in a practicum course at the Cradles Infant Toddler Daycare and then was hired to work for the facility. She later completed her student teaching at the Henry County YMCA preschool and was hired as an Assistant Teacher in 2016. Even though Kelly has graduated and is working in the field, she has developed lasting friendships at the local campus and often stops to visit with the campus staff. Kelly is a great example of Ivy Tech Community College WORKS in Henry County!

Currently, a computer and projector are our source of presenting to our students in the classroom. For years, high schools have been using interactive touch-boards. INNOVATE: The faculty in the School of Technology would like to provide instruction using a TouchIT 75Z10 touch screen. You can think of this as a large tablet device that is used as a white board. It will be mounted on a stand with wheels so it can be moved to different classrooms. We will be able to choose from hundreds of apps and content that are already created for the classroom. SUPPORT: Data tells us that students want to be engaged using technology. We would like to provide a true modernized classroom for our students. With your support, this can be achieved.

Over the last year, POD 7 has served nearly 1,000 students who are in need of assistance. We need your help to serve even more students. Ivy Tech South Bend WHAT IS POD 7? During the Fall of 2016 the Ivy Tech South Bend campus opened POD 7, also known as the Resource and Referral Center, in response to an increased awareness that many of our students struggle to meet their basic needs. This includes maintaining proper nutrition, heating their homes, transportation, health insurance, counseling, etc. Over the last year, POD 7 has served nearly 1,000 students who are in need of assistance. FOOD PANTRY: A primary area of concern for students is food insecurity. If students are not able to afford nutritious food, their physical health, mental well-being, and ability to perform in the classroom is at risk. Therefore, POD 7 opened a food pantry to better serve students. One student who utilized this resource is Krystal Pyott. She is a hard-working mother of two who is pursuing a degree in Human Services at the South Bend campus. While in school, Krystal’s husband was diagnosed with cancer and kidney failure. Due to mounting bills and the need to support her family, Krystal had to work longer hours. As a result, she no longer qualified for government assistance to help feed her family. That is when she turned to POD 7’s food pantry, which allowed her to come in for a family meal twice a month. POD 7 staff also provided Krystal with information about other area food banks that could help her family during this difficult time. CONTINUED SUPPORT: Together, we must continue to support the efforts of POD 7 at Ivy Tech South Bend. By meeting students’ basic needs, it will allow them to thrive and perform at higher levels inside and outside the classroom. Ultimately, students like Krystal will be able to reach their goal of completing a college degree, enter the local workforce, and make a significant impact on our community for many years to come. This Scholarship gives the Foundation the opportunity to provide many students scholarships forever. This year, the Ivy Tech Foundation was able to award 28 scholarships totaling $42,000 to students from the Lake County, Michigan City and Valparaiso Campuses. We hope you will help us continue to grow this fund so we can award even more scholarships to more students each year! I am a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, only given to the top ten percent of students on campus. Being a part of a variety of clubs taught me a lot, has exposed me to different people and allowed me to create many relationships. Also, attending Ivy Tech has allowed me to stay at home with my family and help pay for tuition, setting me ahead in my goals. I am a full-time student and a part-time employee with two jobs. I have learned how to balance school and work effectively to achieve a 3.756 GPA.While in high school, I was given an incredible opportunity to become experienced in Engineering and Technology. My husband works very hard to support us and receiving this scholarship is a tremendous help. As a non-traditional student, I have a higher level of maturity and focus; a focus on the prize of graduation. I struggle with personal health issues, but I am determined to succeed. My drive comes from wanting to contribute to the support of my family. Jasmine Wade: Physical Therapist Assistant Ivy Tech gives students like me the same education as a four-year university. It’s affordable and gives me the chance to become a better person in life by having an education. My career goals start with completing the Physical Therapist Assistant Program at Ivy Tech and then applying for transitioning programs to fulfill my ultimate goal. Helping my community is very important. I plan to go back to my high school, motivate students who want to major in PTA and help guide them in the right direction. My experience with leadership is vital, and I will do my absolute best to make sure no one is left behind and assist others to work together as a team to get any job done. An annual tradition for the Ivy Tech Richmond campus is supporting our students by accepting donations of cash or gifts for Christmas presents for their child(ren). Students register their children starting on November 20 through December 1 at the Richmond campus. They provide the ages of their children (up to 18), clothing sizes and wish lists. We hang an ornament on the tree representing the children and their wish list. The tree is always full and there are times we have to turn students away because there is not enough funds to buy gifts for everyone. College staff shops December 11 - 18 using the donated funds. Students pick up the wrapped gifts on December 19, right before the campus' holiday break. The Ivy Tech Richmond employee family will make sure your gift will make an impact this holiday season. Introduce students to agriculture, provide workforce training, build community partnerships -- it's agriculture education on the move! Columbus Ivy Tech Community College Columbus is seeking funding for a mobile agriculture laboratory and classroom. IvyMac, the Mobile Agriculture Classroom, will increase partnerships between Ivy Tech and agriculture-related business, increase enrollment and interest in agriculture education, and provide mobile job training for regional agriculture employers and the workforce. What is a Mobile Agriculture Classroom? IvyMac will be a self-contained mobile classroom with interactive workstations for students, community members and employer partners to conduct activities related to agriculture. The mobile classroom is 28-feet long on the working floor with an overall length of 36 feet. The unit has heat and air conditioning and can be ran completely self-contained with a built-in generator. The classroom is towed with a truck. Key Focus Areas This project has three main focus areas: Recruit students. The use of this trailer at events such as the Farm Bureau Conventions, Indiana State Fair, Indiana FFA and National FFA conventions as a walk-through and interactive exhibit will help Ivy Tech Columbus recruit students to meet the ever-growing demand for a well-trained agricultural workforce across the state. Advance high school ag programs. Many high school ag programs have less experienced ag teachers who may not have every skill that employers are demanding in the ag-related workplace. Through the use of the mobile classroom Ivy Tech Columbus would have the opportunity to supply instruction to students to help them learn the necessary skills to meet high-demand ag-related careers. Those skills include such things as electrical wiring, food science, soil testing, and other ag mechanization skills. Provide employers with continuing education and compliance opportunities. OSHA compliance for ag employers has become more burdensome. This project will enable Ivy Tech Columbus to offer cost effective training to employees in areas such as OSHA 10, Skid Steer Certification and Forklift Certification. Ivy Tech has the ability to custom design training and instructional courses to prepare the workforce to meet meet employers' demands. By joining the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), Ivy Tech Northeast will be able to provide student athletes the opportunity to develop under a collegiate athletic program with an affordable price tag, making the experience more accessible and providing an even broader range of opportunities for our regional athletes. Goal We have the talent and desire to build a championship winning program right here in Northeast Indiana for our student athletes. Ivy Tech Community College-Sellersburg's art club “Exit 9” is traveling to the Big Apple, New York City! Sellersburg Remember being a kid and seeing The Wizard of Oz for the first time. That’s what the students at Ivy Tech Community College-Sellersburg will feel like when their art club “Exit 9” travels to the Big Apple, New York City. The buzz of the city, from subways to limos. The diverse cultures in fashion, art and music. The extreme economic differences in housing, restaurants and transportation. New York City is a melting pot of numerous nationalities from around the world converging inside an exciting city like no other. For many of our students, it’s a trip of a lifetime, having rarely travelled beyond their local regions. They’ll earn real-world experiences that go beyond the classroom and their own hometowns. Their encounters will provide them with new insights making them more valuable candidates for their future employers. Help our students take the financial bite out of going to the Big Apple. Did you know that over 27% of adults and 18% of children go without much needed dental care every year! We have the solution and need your help... Dr. William Risk Nearly 40 years ago, Dr. William Risk had an idea that made dental assistant students from the Lafayette Campus stand out among their peers. During the last half of their final semester of studies, students take part in a free dental clinic open to the under-served population in Greater Lafayette. They discuss preventative measures, perform routine restorative procedures and provide radiological diagnosis. Each year almost 500 patients are served and the students have experience working on actual patients. Dentists in Lafayette value this experience so much that they hold positions for an Ivy Tech graduate. This a win-win for our students and the community! $6000 a year is needed to cover supplies and maintenance of equipment for this program. In the past few years, nearly $60,000 of dentistry has been provided to community members and our dental assistant students by supporting this outstanding program! Please make a donation today....
