For 19 years, Kurt served students as Assistant Director of Financial Aid and Veterans & Military Benefits Coordinator. Throughout his career, he helped thousands of students navigate financial aid, pursue their education, and build brighter futures. Kurt was especially passionate about supporting veterans and their families, ensuring they had access to the education and benefits they earned through service.
Those who worked alongside Kurt remember his kindness, humility, and the many quiet ways he supported students every day. Whether helping a veteran secure benefits, advising student organizations, or celebrating graduates at commencement, Kurt believed deeply in the power of education to change lives.
Kurt’s commitment to veterans also led him to help establish the Sgt. Brock Babb and Kurt Harris Fallen Heroes Scholarship in memory of Brock Babb, a United States Marine from Evansville who was killed in action while serving in Fallujah, Iraq in 2006. Kurt believed honoring Sgt. Babb’s service through education would help open doors for veterans returning to civilian life.
