Alexandria Anne Kurtz, better known as Alex, of Indianapolis, hung up her chef’s coat for the last time on February 10th, 2025, at the age of 30.
At a young age, Alex spent countless hours in the kitchen with her dad, cultivating a love for cooking. That early inspiration led her to the Chef’s Academy of Indianapolis, where her natural talent earned her a scholarship. Thriving at culinary school, she earned the opportunity to do her externship at Disney World, where she was able to continue cultivating her talents. Her genuine passion for the culinary industry grew through formal training, but it was ultimately her devotion to bringing her family, friends, and colleagues together through food that truly set her apart. She rose to the rank of Executive Chef at an impressively young age and, by 30, had already become General Manager of Walt’s Eats & Drinks—a place she was proud to call her own. Even as the GM, you never found her too far from the kitchen. She was somehow always finding a way to get behind the line to work alongside her team in the place she loved the most.
Alex’s family cannot think of a better way to keep her culinary spirit alive than to create a scholarship fund to award a rising star whose passion for food and love for people matches Alex’s. Her family is partnering with Ivy Tech School of Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management to make this happen.
When students choose Ivy Tech, they receive a world-class education on state-of-the-art equipment to prepare for the workforce.
