Louie Gonzalez has dedicated most of his professional life to making sure Northwest Indiana residents have access to quality post-secondary education. A graduate of Calumet College of St. Joseph, Louie worked briefly in the business sector but returned to Calumet College as an admissions counselor. It was there that he found his true calling in higher education.
Louie also worked in admissions at Indiana University Northwest before moving on to Ivy Tech Community College, where he has spent nearly 36 years. He has served as Assistant Dean of Students and as President of what was at that time the East Chicago Campus. Since 2017, he has served as Chancellor of the college’s Lake County Campus, with locations in Crown Point, East Chicago, and Gary.
Louie has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Calumet College of St. Joseph and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Indiana University Northwest. He has built the Lake County Campus into a flourishing campus community.
Currently, Louie serves as a board member for various agencies, including the Salvation Army of Lake County, Goodwill Excel Centers, Northwest Indiana Workforce Board, and St. Catherine’s Hospital. In addition, he sits on the board of directors for the Center of Workforce Innovations, Lakeshore Chamber of Commerce, and the Northwest Indiana Community Action. Louie received the Sagamore of the Wabash for serving as Port Commissioner and Chairman of the Indiana Port Commission. On a side note, Louie is an avid Chicago CUBS fan.
