Meet Megan: I have been working as a surgical technologist for the past 10 years and have wanted to further my education to become a nurse for some time now, however, the timing was always off. I have been a single mother for 14 years, and my son needed me more when he was younger, so my dreams of returning to school had to be put on hold for a while. This year, I was finally able to afford to return, and then COVID-19 happened. While I was able to work weekends, I wasn't able to pick up any additional shifts during the week since elective surgery had pretty much ceased, and that made my future very uncertain when it came to my education. Once elective surgeries were able to happen again, work picked up and I was able to work more, but I still felt very behind. I have been very uncertain about continuing my degree because of the cost, but with this (scholarship) award, I should be able to stay on track and still graduate in July!

Thank you again so much for all that you do for us students; it really is hard being a parent, working, and going to school, in addition to being a teacher for your child. Life has definitely taken an unexpected turn for most of us, but nevertheless I am so grateful for all the help I have received from Ivy Tech, whether it be monetary or even just someone to talk to during this time. Please know that with your investment, I will be applying it toward my spring semester's tuition/books. Thank you again, and I wish you all the best!
