For more than two decades, the Hilton family has been ambassador’s for Ivy Tech Community College Evansville.Whether it be Holly’s leadership on boards and campaigns, to the family’s long term support of our former gala, or to Frank hosting events, serving on campaigns and creating the first of its kind, full-ride scholarship, the Barbara J. Hilton Nursing Scholarship, awarded to two nursing students…the Hilton Family has paved the way for hundreds of students, programs and faculty and staff at Ivy Tech.
Cheers to 75 Years
On November 12th, Frank celebrates his milestone 75th birthday. He has a simple birthday wish, to remove barriers in the students' path to earning their degree. In lieu of gifts, Dr. Hilton is asking his family and friends to make a gift to Ivy Tech Evansville's Helping Hands Fund in his honor.
What is Helping Hands?
Helping Hands is a solution-based fund that assists students with their emergency financial needs so they can stay on track and in school. This fund covers emergencies both in and out of the classroom. After all community and other resources are exhausted, students are eligible to receive up to $500 two times during their time at Ivy Tech Evansville.
Is it Successful?
During the 2018/2019 school year, 47 students requested over $12,000 in emergency aid from Helping Hands.Over $2,000 of that came from students in the Schools of Nursing and Health Sciences. Caring for the sick in our community, unfortunately comes at a higher cost.
Why is Helping Hands Important?
Helping Hands is a vital resource. On top of the traditional education costs, students in several programs are required to purchase uniforms, cutlery knives, and tools for class, as well as several undergo a criminal background check, drug screening, and a round of immunizations so to do their practicum or clinical round. Depending on a student's area of study, this can add up to as much as $275 or more of additional out of pocket expenses.
