Study Abroad in Italy
The Power of Study Abroad
Study Abroad opportunities are plentiful for the traditional 4 year college student. However, community college students like ours at Ivy Tech are rarely offered the opportunity. According to 2016 data, Community College students only made up for three percent of those studying abroad. If these students are able to go abroad, it is at a heavy financial cost. With your support, Dr. Mary Ann Sellars will be able to give 10 students a learning experience they won’t forget. May 5th-26th, Dr. Sellars hopes to take these students on an educational and cultural tour of Italy. Students will be able to explore Tuscany, Rome, and Venice, where their text books come to life. Students will be able to learn about philosophy in the birthplace of Machiavelli, study art surrounded by DaVinci and Michaelangelo, or business in the home of the Medici family.
Why Should You Give?
Simple. This experience will broaden our students' horizons both in the classroom and out.
- One study abroad alumnus said "Study abroad broaden my horizons, and changed my view of the world. I grew as a student, and as a human being". It is not just the alumns that know the benefit of study abroad.
- One hopeful student said "I hope to have a career in foreign relations, and study abroad will provide me with the opportunity to learn more about my future career. Since I am a foster kid, I will have to find my own way to pay for the experience."
This project will end February 8th. The application deadline for students is February 11th.
